The Story of
Bright Stars
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic

Less than a thousand miles from Central Florida, where we live, lies an island nation with over 120,000 children who are orphaned due to poverty or domestic violence.  The beauty of its coastline belies the suffering and hardships that are hidden in the barrios and picturesque villages.

It was during a wheelchair distribution to the Dominican Republic a few years ago that we were introduced to a small orphanage in a private home in the capital city of Santo Domingo.  Although the visit was brief, we were struck by the sense that we had a responsibility to help girls like these to have more food security and a better environment.

Three years later, through the providence of God, we found a beautiful 5-acre campus just 30 minutes from the Santo Domingo airport.  The five-acre parcel has all the essentials to house 38 girls, including infants with ample space outside for exercise and even the opportunity to grow their crops.  Under the foundation called Bright Stars for the Children in the Dominican Republic and a partnership with the Morningstar Educational Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization, we purchased and rehabilitated the facilities.

While we work under the guidelines and regulations of the responsible agencies of the DR, we are focused on providing a family environment to children from challenging backgrounds.  The focus is to promote healthful living, spiritual growth, vocational training and language learning while providing the children with access to a good education.

We have been busy updating the campus to prepare for the orphans that will arrive any day now.  Please join us on this incredible adventure – changing these girl’s lives through love, security, and training, exchanging possibilities for past tragedies.  Bright Stars is completely dependent on donors like you for its operation.

There are three ways you can help financially with your tax-deductible gift:

  • Help us get ready with special projects needed to comfortably house the girls in their new home
  • Provide monthly giving for operational expenses including food, clothing and staffing.
  • Ask us about our campus expansion program that will permit Bright Stars to serve more than 100 children.
